Easter Sunday

Week 8: Living the Resurrection of Jesus

read it•learn it•pray it•do it

Spend a bit of time praying and thinking for yourself about the meaning of these words and how living them might make a difference.

to get you started ...

Living life

Words today, not of Jesus but of angels. Words of promise and joy, ’he has risen’. Words of direction, ’why look for the living among the dead?’

Questions

· What does the resurrection of Jesus mean for you and for the world?
· Where do we find his living presence today? Do we look in the wrong places?

Challenges

· Take time to reflect on the joy and wonder of Jesus’ resurrection.
· Pray that others will see the living Jesus in you, in your words and life.

Courage

It was women’s work, but where were the men?  Not one strong young apostle to escort them, to help roll the stone away.  How glorious that it is these last, the women and mothers whose love and courage and mutual support bring them early to the tomb, not knowing what they will find, bravely showing their defiance of the authorities and their allegiance to Christ.
The angels, superior in knowledge but lacking human touch, should surely have praised these brave ladies and more gently reminded them of Jesus’ promise.
But among these last shall be the first to meet the risen Christ.  Alleluia!

Easter Blessing

The every day challenge during Lent has been a blessing in many ways.  Particularly it has reminded me of how often I fall short of a way of life to which Jesus points.  It has also made me realise afresh how deep is God’s forgiveness.  I know that in my head, but the resurrection day allows me to feel it in my heart.  Alleluia!

See how I make all things new

A former Bishop of Durham stirred up controversy by saying the resurrection was no conjuring trick. Quite. Jesus is risen. Not just alive again. The resurrection is about transformation: the lit touchpaper to a new way of being. Last year I was preaching from the John 21 account and put this film together from youtube bits and pieces to accompany it. He is risen!

Words for all time

The words of the angels are words for all time - the good news of Easter and the good news for every day of the year. Christ has risen from the dead and has transformed death and life - has transformed our lives. & with those transformed lives we are challenged to transform the lives of the people we meet for the risen Christ is with us in whatever we do. As kingdom people we bear the light of Christ’s transformed life to light up the dark corners of our world. As kingdom people we bring the joy of the Resurrection to those in sorrow and distress. Christ has truly risen ! ALLELUIA !
