Dare to make a difference
While Jesus was saying this, a woman in the crowd raised her voice and said to him, ‘Blessed is the womb that bore you and the breasts that nursed you!’ But he said, ‘Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it!’

Week 5: Living Close to Jesus
read itlearn itpray itdo it
Spend a bit of time praying and thinking for yourself about the meaning of these words and how living them might make a difference.
to get you started ...
Discipleship begins with time spent with Jesus; it is nurtured in prayer. But discipleship is evidenced in action.
· Who do you consider to be truly blessed?
· How might Jesus’ words offer a different way of looking at how we value people and our lives and actions?
· What words of Jesus will you obey and put into action today?
· Pray that God would open your eyes to see those around you who ‘hear the word of God and obey it’. Learn from their example.

Happy indeed are those who hear Gods word and obey it. In a world where we hear all kinds of messages which we obey (transmitted to us through the media, advertising etc..) its not the obeying which is the difficult part (though many would say they dont want to obey anyone). It’s the listening. It is the fight to be heard in all this noise that is the difficult bit. How easy is the word of God to hear?

“Hear” and “obey” are good, but maybe they are not all that Jesus means here. “Happy the mother who bore and nurtured you as a child”, shouts the woman. “Happy rather the heart that hears the word of God” replies Jesus, and perhaps “happy rather the soul that, as a mother with her child, takes God’s Word into its innermost being, carries God’s Word, bears, nurtures, guards and keeps God’s Word. How happy that soul!”

We live in a world where authority is questioned and the right to do what is best for me is valued above everything else. It’s regarded as ‘my right’. And the result? People are confused, anxious and depressed, certainly not blessed. Jesus offers us a different way-listen to the word of God and obey it. This is not an easy escape; it is a challenge to live blessed lives as kingdom people, acting in God’s way not our way.

Receive his discipline by denying self and sitting at his feet .Be confident in God’s Covenant with us for he is our provider, peace, healer ,shepherd, righteousness, banner and guide.Be still in him then hear his word ,try to obey and remember his love and enter the circle of his grace.Yesterday we dared to ask today we listen and obey .Thank you father for your son Ame

Many people in our modern society spend a lot of effort in analysing and over interpreting the word of God in order to make it fit in with modern trends. Here the Lord is asking us to simply listen and obey.

Blessed are those who obey
This one should really have been set for Mother’s day! Never mind - a brief reflection on what can possibly be more blessed than being a mum..
