Week 3: Living the Life of Jesus
read itlearn itpray itdo it
Spend a bit of time praying and thinking for yourself about the meaning of these words and how living them might make a difference.
to get you started ...
This week we look at some of the key things Jesus said which point to a different way to live. Today’s verse makes it clear that we cannot simply live Jesus’ life in our heads or even our hearts; action is required.
· In what ways do you follow Jesus with your words but not live it in your life?
· What makes it hard to put Jesus words into practice?
· What might make the difference?
· Choose one thing Jesus said that you can act on today.
· Reflect on someone you know who lives the life of Jesus. What can you learn from their example?

I really can relate to these words of our Lord asking why we call him Lord and not do as He says! I often fel that way with my children when they say ‘Love you mum ’ but soon afterwards are willing to disobey me.
I explain to them that actions speak louder than words and the same applies to our walk with God. It is often easy to call Jesus Lord and then disregard what he calls us to do.He has called us firstly to love Him and secondly to love our neighbour.
As Christians we need to practice what we preach and the world will recognize us by our fruit. May it be fruit that honours our Father!

What Susannah has said is challenging and well worth consideration

The words… “and do not do what I tell you?”
What “I tell you” is Jesus telling us we should do?
Is it legal perfection or practical love?
Is Jesus ‘Lord’ of a fallible sinful person who tries to love, or a legally correct person who may not love as much?
Is the “what I tell you” to do… the primary commandment to love?
Or is Lordship of Jesus conditional on moral corrrectness?
Is Jesus, above all else, Lord of our lives when we just get on with loving other people and loving God in givenness and service?
If we diverge on issues of interpretation, is love what counts above all?

“If Jesus isn’t Lord of all, He isn’t really Lord at all”

As I feel quite immature as a Christian trying to be more like Jesus can seem a terribly difficult thing to attemtp. The website’s suggestion that we choose a role model from within our own acquaintance and try to emulate them is such a simple powerful suggestion. I have meditated on who to choose and come up with an amalgamation of two women in our church family who embody age of christian qualities. The first characteristic that they share that I am working on is that they act from a good heart. They put Jesus at the centre of their lives.

easy to say, hard to follow
very easy to say, but most of the diversity of churches and all the problems that has caused, and still causes, has been trying to follow just this. We just can’t agree on doing what Jesus tells us actually means. this can be divisive as well as uniting.
