Listening to Jesus

Three of Jesus’ disciples witness an extraordinary event on a mountain. Jesus external appearance changes to reflect the wonder and light of his inner reality. Today’s verse records the words they heard. God invites them, and us, to know who Jesus is and to listen to his words.

Questions

  • What does Jesus mean to you?
  • What makes him special, what makes him worth listening to?
  • How do we listen to him today?
  • What might that mean in your life?

Challenges

  • Take time today to reflect the difference the words of Jesus have made to your life.
  • Pray that through our lives, Jesus’ words will make a difference to our communities.

Original Comment:Deuteronomy 18:15

“The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your own brothers. You must listen to him.”

In all our sickly-sweet adoration of Jesus “my friend and my redeemer” we must never forget that this man was a Jewish rabbi who came to fulfil the prophesies of the Jewish scripture – our “Old Testament”.  This saying seems to point directly to the book of Deuteronomy and we should look there if we are to understand God’s purpose in sending Jesus to us.
